Sayce enlisted into the RAAF on the 5th of Dec 1941.
Sayce arrived at 2OTU on the 14th Nov 1943 ex 3WAGS for No 26 FOT course.
Sergeant Sayce was the pilot of Kittyhawk A29-90 with two others (FSGT Martin and SGT Eames) carrying out ground staffing at Lake Victoria on 4 Jan 1944. As they were returning back to the Mildura aerodrome, about 20-miles from the base, Sayce was seen to lag behind and lose height.
He was involved in a tragic and fatal crash about 12-miles north-west of the aerodrome and 2-miles west-north-west of Yelta at approximately 0920 hours while attempting a forced landing.
