Sergeant Maxwell Robert Walker, aged 22 years, was killed at 0110 hours on 4 August 1943 when Kittyhawk A29-1 crashed about 4 miles south-west of Mildura airfield.

It caught fire on impact. The Aircraft Accident Data report described the incident as follows: “Walker was engaged in night flying circuits and landings. Aircraft took off quite normally and appeared to climb away satisfactorily.

A short time later a fire was observed, from the ground, about 4 miles south-west of aerodrome and remains of crashed and burned out aircraft were found.
