Thomas Watson Wood (421650)Flying Officer

    Wood was born in Sydney on the 18th of October in 1920.

    He enlisted in RAAF Aircrew on 28 Feb 1942 and was posted to No 2OTU Mildura.

    He was flying Kittyhawk A29-85 on the 8th of February 1945 when it crashed near the Red Cliffs – Morkalla road, while engaged in aerobatic exercises. The subsequent inquiry found that the aircraft had dived vertically into the ground. This was the only fatal accident at Mildura where there was no part of the aircraft available for removal, only small pieces of metal.  Wood was buried in the Mildura War Cemetery in grave CC.3, on 10 Feb 1945.
